Clarksville, TN in the News of the Weird

Clarksville, TNClarksville, Tennessee made an appearance in Chuck Shephard’s News of the Weird column, a weekly syndicated newspaper column founded 1988 that is one of the most read weird-news features in the United States

In the June 25, 2006 edition of his column is the section, “Honesty Is the Best Policy?” which referenced the April arrest of one Jonifer Jackson age 20 in Clarksville for reckless endangerment. The humor is in his explanation for committing his offense.

Honesty Is the Best Policy? (1) Jonifer Jackson, 20, was arrested in Clarksville, Tenn., in April and charged with reckless endangerment for firing a 9 mm pistol while street-preaching (because, he told police, it was the only way he could get people to listen to him).[WSMV-TV (Nashville)-AP, 4-3-06]

Clarksville, TN has appeared in Chuck Shepard’s column once before in June 1995.

1995 — In June, the owner of the only “adult bookstore” in Clarksville, Tenn., petitioned a federal court to overturn a recently passed city ordinance. The city council intended to prohibit operators of such a store from engaging in sex on the premises of the store but apparently left out the words “on the premises,” thus ostensibly prohibiting the owner and his employees from having sex anywhere.
