Barbara M. Brown, I am running for the Montgomery County Commission District 2

Barbara Melton BrownThis site is an encouragement to everyone to participate in the electoral process. It is extremely important for all registered voters to VOTE in the county general election.

The County Commission, among other duties, sets the county tax rate and approves the county budget, including the amount spent on education, infrastructure, and public safety. It is also important that commissioners represent the broad spectrum of our community.

In the Montgomery County Commission Race for District 2, I bring a proven record of 29 years of community service. I began with the Cub Scout program at St B where I served as Cubmaster for 6 years and then directed the district day camp program for 2 years. When my sons were in Little League and band, I also supported those programs with volunteer service and leadership.

Broader community service includes my spearheading the very first recycling effort in the county and being named by then County Executive Joel Plummer and Mayor Don Trotter to serve on a solid waste advisory board for the Greater Nashville Regional Council as well as a more local board for Montgomery and Robertson Counties.

I am a graduate of Leadership Clarksville as well as Tennessee Leadership and have completed several leadership training opportunities through the National Issues Foundation and a Kellogg Foundation funded Family and Community Leadership program.

Besides my community qualifications, I earned a degree from Lipscomb University and a graduate degree from the University of Kentucky. I have taught on both high school and college levels and am currently facilitating a Women’s Bible study at Madison St Church of Christ.

I know the importance of living within one’s means and know how to rate choices for spending. I also recognize the importance of planning for the future, encouraging controlled growth, and seeking out potential employers who will bring mind challenging jobs to our community.

On the campaign trail I have learned that most of the concerns voiced by constituents have within them workable solutions. It is certainly the job of a commissioner to bring those concerns to the table and also to ask whose voice is not being heard on any given issue.

REMEMBER TO VOTE! And if you live in District 2, please VOTE for Barbara Melton Brown for County Commission!
