We have posted the election results for the Democrat and Republican primaries on the election 2006 page. I have also updated the races for the november election, adding the green party and independent candidates. For a complete rundown on who’s running for what, visit the races section on the sidebar of the election 2006 page.

AOL releases search data on 650,000 users

Slashdot is running a story on AOL (Time Warner) releasing the search queries for 650,000 aol users. They hid the userid by changing it to a random number for each user. While they did this with the best of intentions(for research purposes), the problem is the type of stuff that people search for. This might include their names, friends, family members, addresses, phone numbers, social security numbers. Recent changes to Clarksville Online

We have made some changes to the article and author page templates. Some new changes include adding the images below to each article:

Clicking this image, allows you to send an article via email to up to 5 friends. We log that the email was sent, in case we get complaints of spam, other than that the emails are never used or given out. They get a sample of the post along with pictures and a link to come back and read the entire story.

Clicking this image, allows you to view a print version of the article complete with the pictures from the story. What’s missing is the Clarksville Online theme or layout, removing it before printing results in a big savings in the cost of ink on color printers when printing one of our stories! It also adds the articles comments, and a text listing of each of web site links from the story at the bottom of the printout incase you need it later.     

If you are authorized to edit on a story you will see this image. Simply click it and the story will pop up in an edit window. This is primarily for people who are setup as authors, hopefully many of our readers will join us one day!

District 5 Concession

Dear Friends,

The votes are in… and while we held a lead after the votes had been counted on election day, (Schlanger 203 – Gibbs 194) my opponent took the lead with the count from early voting. (Early voting ran July 14 – 29, 2006, Schlanger 130 – Gibbs 298) The final tally is Schlanger 337 – Gibbs 504.

Congratulations to Robert Gibbs and congratulations to all the candidates who won.

A huge thank you to all who have contributed your valuable time and resources. I am truly grateful for all the effort and energy so many of you have given to this campaign. Thank you to all the volunteers who gave unselfishly. I have learned from all of you and your encouragement keeps me going. Thank you to all those who donated money to this campaign, your investment began and continues to fuel the need for change in our community. And especially, thank you to my family, my wife and daughters, for all the sacrifices you have made during the past three months and your unconditional love and support. Hillary Clinton VS Donald Rumsfeld ends in TKO

Today, Sentator Clinton grilled the Bush Administration as represented by Donald Rumsfeld on it’s handling of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Updated: August 2006 election results, and rumors of problems downloading votes from machines used in early voting!

I am currently investigating reports of issues retreiving the votes from the Microvote Infnity machines used for early voting, which once again raises the question: Can we trust paperless voting using electronic machines, and highlighting the need for these machines to produce a voter verified paper audit trail!

Ask yourself this. What happens at the end of the day, if they try to download votes from a heavily used voting machine, and find nothing there? While I hope this is a nightmare that we never have to face, they will not be able to say we were not warned!  Updated below: «Read the rest of this article»
