Torture in AmericaShortly, with Der Fuerer’s signing of the torture bill passed this week by congress, the United States will become a fascist state in all but name. No longer will be subject to the rule of law, but rather to the caprice of a man who I judge to be amoral and immoral. Habeus corpus has been done away with. The right to to a speedy and fair trial by a jury of your peers has been done away with. The right to be apprised of the charges brought against you and to confront your accusers has been done away with. The right to legal counsel has been done away with.

Instead, the chief executive of the United States reserves to himself the right to designate whomever he wishes as an “enemy combatant”. Once so designated, the president has the right to dispose of you in any manner he sees fit. You will be “disappeared”. No one will be told where you have been take or what has been done to you. You will be held incognito so long as the president wishes. And while being held, they may use any technique they desire to extract information from you. Nor can they be held liable for their actions, this bill gives them a get out of jail free card for all such actions performed in the past, present or future. You will be unable to do ANYTHING to them or ANYTHING to get yourself out of their clutches. «Read the rest of this article»

Local art scene not a hoax!

By Brandt | September 28, 2006 | Print This Post

Ice House CafeMiddle Tennessee is a very veristile place to be.  Universities and miliary presence bring a vast variety of people and cultures together.

We all celebrate our culture and lives through human expression.  One of the purest forms of this is our art.  There is an event held here in Clarksville once a month to allow us all to express and share our art.  This event is The UPtown Artists’ Swap, held the last Saturday evening of every month from 7-10PM.  This event is hosted by The Icehouse Cafe (118 University Ave, between Cafe 541 and Burrito Bungalo).  In addition to hosting the event, the cafe graciously donates it’s wall space every month for Art X-Po, which showcases group and solo exhibitions of the region’s most premier artists.  All events at the cafe are all ages, free, and open to the public! «Read the rest of this article»

Green Party Senate Candidate Chris Lugo Urges Inclusion in Debates

By Chris Lugo | September 27, 2006 | Print This Post

Chris Lugo, Peace Candidate for US SenateNashville, TN: Green Party of Tennessee candidate for US Senate Chris Lugo is urging the League of Women Voters and other organizations sponsoring debates in Tennessee to open up the debates to all candidates on the ballot,”This is a democracy and the only way the voters can know who they are voting for is if they have a chance to see them and hear them. It is of vital importance in this important statewide election that the media not exclude candidates and thereby hand the elections over to the campaigns with the most money.”

The League of Women voters has scheduled a debate between Democrat Harold Ford Jr. and Republican Bob Corker on October 28th in candidate Chris Lugo’s home town of Nashville. The Green Party of Tennessee has been fielding candidates for office since 1996. The National Green Party has been in existence for almost three decades and has elected officials in over 250 positions nationally and is running hundreds of candidates this year. In Tennessee, the Green Party is fielding candidates in two Congressional races as well as the Gubenatorial and Senate races. «Read the rest of this article»

Keith Olbermann’s Special Comment on Bill Clinton’s interview with Fox

By Bill Larson | September 27, 2006 | Print This Post

Keith OlbermannEdward R. MurrowOn Monday, Sept. 25 2006, Keith Olbermann commented on Bill Clinton’s interview with Fox News, and called for an end to President Bush’s “pass” for his incompetence and malfeasance relating to September 11. His words are a highlight for what many concerned American Citizens who have often been labeled unpatriotic, Anti-Bush, Anti-Republican, or Anti-American, have been saying for the last 5 years.

Keith Olbermann, is a modern day Edward R. Murrow. A man of character and honor. A man who is not afraid to speak the truth both to those in power, and to a public often unwilling to listen themselves. MSNBC deserves our support and full credit for allowing Keith Olbermann to exercise his first amendment rights from their network, when so many other networks have just given up and surrendered. «Read the rest of this article»
