Since 1983, Clarksvillians have called the Roxy Regional Theatre, their hometown theatre. This season, more than 45,000 area residents have been touched by the live performances at the Roxy Some 25,000 students have attended their morning performances while others have taken advantage of their pay-what-you-can preview showings which allow everyone, regardless of economic backgrounds, the opportunity to enjoy live theatre. Some have joined one of their Saturday afternoon matinees which are targeted towards senior citizens and parents with children looking for wholesome family activities. Many others have enjoyed one of the 212 scheduled evening events in either their Mainstage or the smaller Otherspace theatre this season.
Again this January, following the lead of other regional theatres, they have scheduled something fun for children – Mittens, Tom Kitten, and Moppet: More Tales of Beatrix Potter. The $5 per student ticket price for school groups will, in bulk, help the Roxy defer some of the costs, but they still allow waivers and vouchers, and they are committed to a “No child left behind” policy. Broadway has one ticket price for The Lion King – $100 a seat – no exceptions or discounts. Many people do not understand the “Business” of show, and the fact that a theatre which produces quality professional performances cannot survive on ticket sales alone.

And Then They Came For Me: Remembering the World of Anne Frank
