Don’t be fooled by Karl’s November Surprise

The Iraqi Government has “decided” to release the verdict from the Saddam Hussein “trial” on November 5th just two days before the United States General Election. It’s a move clearly intended to give the Bush Administration’s political party a boost in the polls as the corporate “news” media goes into a feeding frenzy of over exaggerated coverage.

While it cannot definitively be said that the reason the senior Iraqi court in charge of Saddam Hussein’s trial postponed its verdict in the case until two days before the November elections so that it would influence the midterms, the postponement suggests several obvious questions, including, most importantly: Given the Bush administration’s history of timing national security-related actions to the political calendar, has the date for the verdict’s release been set to provide maximum political benefit for the administration and congressional Republicans? – Media Matters

Fear is no way to remember Pfc. Barry Winchell

The Servicemembers Legal Defense Network recently reported that Justin Fisher, the man who conspired with Calvin Glover to kill Pfc. Barry Winchell, was released from prison after serving 7 of a 12-year sentence. Barry’s murder brought national attention to Clarksville and Fort Campbell. It also gave new life to the call to end the failed “Don’t-Ask-Don’t-Tell” policy

Conservative bloggers have also commented on Barry’s death. One went so far as to say that Barry deserved what he got since he violated the DADT policy. That’s a lot like blaming a rape victim for her own attack. This kind of ignorance is as staggering as it is revolting. Stay for 5 minutes or 5 hours … show up when you like, leave when you’re ready!  Supporters are asked to wear orange, if possible. Bring your friends and family, and let’s prove that grassroots support is what really matters – not just money!
