APSU Events this week

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, Tennessee is fortunate to be the home to an educational facility such as Austin Peay State University. In addition to the economic benefits they bring, APSU is a significant cultural incubator for our community. There are several events coming up this week including a poetry reading, and a formal and informal panel discusion on environmental awareness.


8pm October 4th, 2006

Poetry Reading at the Kimbrough Building’s Gentry Auditorium. A book signing and reception will follow. It’s free and open to the public.

October 5th, 2006

12:45pm: Informal discussion on Environmental Awareness. Room 200 in the Claxton Building.

7:30pm: Panel Discussion on Environmental Awareness: “Stewards of the Earth: Robert Hass, Ben Namakin and local Tennesseans on the Environment”

Panelists:

  • Lindsey Bland, executive director of the Red River Watershed Association
  • David Evans, president of the Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association
  • Dr. Joe Schiller, professor of biology at APSU
  • Ben Namakin, an environmental educator from Micronesia
  • Jeff Barrie, producer of the award-winning documentary, “Killowatt Ours”
  • Dave Pelton, executive director of Clean Cities of Middle Tennessee Department
  • Robert Hass, founding editor of River of Words

Moderator: Barry Kitterman, professor of English

A reception and book signing will follow the event.
