Fear is no way to remember Pfc. Barry Winchell

The Servicemembers Legal Defense Network recently reported that Justin Fisher, the man who conspired with Calvin Glover to kill Pfc. Barry Winchell, was released from prison after serving 7 of a 12-year sentence. Barry’s murder brought national attention to Clarksville and Fort Campbell. It also gave new life to the call to end the failed “Don’t-Ask-Don’t-Tell” policy

Conservative bloggers have also commented on Barry’s death. One went so far as to say that Barry deserved what he got since he violated the DADT policy. That’s a lot like blaming a rape victim for her own attack. This kind of ignorance is as staggering as it is revolting. Choose Charles Smith Mayor supporters will wave signs between the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. this Saturday in the area around Veteran’s Plaza. Stay for 5 minutes or 5 hours … show up when you like, leave when you’re ready!  Supporters are asked to wear orange, if possible. Free Choose Charles signs are available, and a limited number of Choose Charles t-shirts are available while they last! Bring your friends and family, and let’s prove that grassroots support is what really matters – not just money!

As we near the end of this race, we are propelled forward by folks like you! Now it’s time to sprint to the finish line!
