  1. I wish more parents and City and County officials had attended Friday nights forum. Dr. Harris our new School Director gave a very informative presentation on the progress and achievements within our school district.

The Urban Resource Center had made comments that Dr. Sandra Husk had left many questions unanswered concerning minority issues. Dr. Harris was able to answer those questions and illustrate to the public where we stand and where we hope to go in the next year and in future years.

The data presented beginning with the 2003 school year was very impressive. Much of the data is available at the CMCSS web site. One only has to view the data to see that Dr. Husk lead the school system to great achievements. I believe Dr. Harris will pick up the ball and take our school system to even greater achievement.

I hope The Leaf-Chronicle will do a follow-up article to the article they published announcing the Forum. It could offer a great deal of insight into the excellent job our teachers, administrators, parents and students are doing to further education in our county and city.

  2. Ten months later, I am not so sure that we want to be overly excited by our new Superintendent’s actions. He has proven to be a bit unstable in two known incidents involving minority comments. The February incident at Ringold Elem. resulted in the teacher only receiving a reprimand. The recent incident just this week ended only in a reprimand as well.
