We invaded Iran last night

Jeff it’s an embassy of a foreign nation. It’s not something you can choose to search just because you feel like it. International laws and treaties say that once they go into the embassy grounds they are on Iranian territory not Iraq’s.

Article 31 of the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations states the following:

Inviolability of the consular premises

1.Consular premises shall be inviolable to the extent provided in this article.

2.The authorities of the receiving State shall not enter that part of the consular premises which is
used exclusively for the purpose of the work of the consular post except with the consent of the head of the consular post or of his designee or of the head of the diplomatic mission of the sending State. The consent of the head of the consular post may, however, be assumed in case of fire or other disaster requiring prompt protective action.

3.Subject to the provisions of paragraph 2 of this article, the receiving State is under a special duty to take all appropriate steps to protect the consular premises against any intrusion or damage and to  prevent any disturbance of the peace of the consular post or impairment of its dignity.

4.The consular premises, their furnishings, the property of the consular post and its means of transport shall be immune from any form of requisition for purposes of national defence or public utility.

If expropriation is necessary for such purposes, all possible steps shall be taken to avoid impeding the performance of consular functions, and prompt, adequate and effective compensation shall be paid to the sending State.

It’s a treaty to which the United States is a signatory. Which means we hold it to have equal weight to our own Constitution.

As for do I want to win in Iraq? We can’t win in Iraq. It’s simply not possible. It wasn’t possible from day one, and still isn’t. It does not matter if we ship 100 or 100,000 more troops. All the Iraqi people have to do to stop us from winning is to keep fighting. It’s the same strategy George Washington used in our revolutionary war against England. He realized he didn’t have to win the battles, just keep fighting until the cost of the war forced the British to give up.

Until the winter of 1777-78 at Valley Forge, Washington thought of the war against Britain as a contest between two armies. When the British army presented itself for battle, as it did on Long Island in the summer of 1776, Washington felt honor-bound to fight — a decision that proved calamitous on that occasion and nearly lost the war at the very start. That’s because the British had a force of 32,000 men against his 12,000. If Washington had not changed his thinking, the American Revolution almost surely would have failed because the Continental Army was no match for the British leviathan.

But at Valley Forge, Washington began to grasp an elemental idea: Namely, he did not have to win the war. Time and space were on his side. And no matter how many battles the British army won, it could not sustain control over the countryside unless it was enlarged tenfold, at a cost that British voters would never support. Eventually the British would recognize that they faced an impossibly open-ended mission and would decide to abandon their North American empire. Which is exactly what happened. – What Would George Washington Do?

We were lied into war with Iraq by this administration.  3,018 US servicemen and women and up to 650,000 Iraqi’s have died for that lie. So yes we need to withdraw all US troops from Iraq as soon as humanly possible! We were foolish for going in, foolish for staying once Saddam was removed, and foolish for even considering a escalation!

You need to stop twisting the articles here and read what they actually say. My story is 100% accurate and means exactly what it said with no spin desired or necessary.

What if I am really, really unhappy on this planet? I can’t love/respect myself and others; I’m in fear all the time. My fear makes me so serious and angry. I try to feel good about myself by putting others down when I can. And I’ve got to win, at anything. My heart is like a big black hole.

I have no idea just how amazing and incredible I really am. I have no idea that I am indeed a beautiful soul. I NEED someone to make all my fear and punishment go away.

Going to heaven is my only hope that God will bypass me and MAKE me love myself. It’s my only hope and I’ve got to make sure other people believe in heaven cause I wouldn’t wanta think any other way. I’m just so miserable here. This planet is so horrible. The more that I hurt it, the worse I feel. And I can’t forgive myself for all the butt head things I’ve done, like hurt other people (specially women) and such. So of course I project that other people are just as evil and miserable as I am. How can anyone have tolerance of the evil I project?

Can’t we please, please just blow up the planet? You know, we’ll get to heaven faster, prove to everyone that we were RIGHT all along and God will MAKE me forgive myself. He’ll force me to feel love instead of terror. I’ve never been able to win at convincing people to accept my reality, so let’s just blow them up and get this done with. Please. We would be “winning” …like O’Reilly is. Only winners can put down everyone else.

The U.S. military operation Thursday in the northern Iraqi city of Irbil that resulted in the arrests of six Iranians has drawn a sharp denunciation from Iraq’s Kurdish regional government.

A spokesman for the autonomous regional government and its presidency expressed their “alarm” and condemned the Thursday morning operation.

They characterized it as a raid on the Iranian consulate in Irbil, “which opened in the provincial capital in an agreement between the Iraqi government and the Iranian government.” – CNN

That is a statement not from the Iranians, but from the Kurdish government in that area of Iraq.

They also said in the same article:

The Kurdish statement, which includes a call for the immediate release of the detainees, says the consulate is entitled to immunity in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 1963.

I am sure that it is just a coincidence that this occurs right as George is giving his speech and promising to go after those who support the insurgency no matter where they may be found.

I have always supported the troops, but I have never supported this illegal, immoral, and unjust war. They are not mutually exclusive. We can best support or soldiers by getting them out of harms way as soon as possible. So no in this case I guess in this case you could say I don’t want the US to “win”. If we win in Iraq it would just encourage the neocons to waste many more American lives as ideological currency in unjustifiable conflicts which would also bring death and destruction to millions of other innocent civilians.

Those who perpetrate and justify violence should never be rewarded for their actions only punished including our current president and his administration.

I never said the revolutionary war was won solely based on any one tactic. I am saying we learned a lesson there which we should have applied to Iraq before we invaded. Please don’t put words into my mouth. It’s full, my foot’s in there already ;)

Are you a Christian? David, please straighten me out. What was the message that Jesus was spreading around anyway? Did it have to do with dropping the bomb on other countries? If not, which deity would be into dropping the bomb on other countries? I’m confused and I don’t know what I’m talking about. Help.

No I feel that to win this war when it was started for such bad justifications (lies, deceptions, and half truths) would encourage more conflict and more war for equally spurious reasons. This war was started to provide a new cold war (PNAC) to ensure that our defense industry (Eisenhower warned us about the military industrial complex) had the funds they wanted to ensure our nation had the worlds best trained and equipped military. The sad thing they left out is that this conflict has degraded our military might, our national reputation, the prestige of our nation, and the perception that the American’s would do the right things for the right reasons. No country in the world believes that any more. Most Americans don’t believe it any more either, which is so very sad. George Bush’s war of agression has cost us the moral high ground, and we will likely never be able to regain it.

I think the American troops should be demanding the same things I demand of our Deserter (Commander) in Chief to not have a single American soldier die unless it’s in the defense of our nation. Not to go die on some foreign battlefield simply to “fight them over there so we don’t have to fight them over here”. Which has always been a crock of shit anyway.

If we had a foreign army on our lands occupying our nation, would you fight to drive them from our homes and cities? I damn well would. We would call that patriotism. Many Iraqi’s fight for the exact same reason. The majority are not terrorists, but simply people fighting to expel a foreign invader from their lands.

That’s not to say there are no terrorists in Iraq. I am sure some have gravitated there due to our presence. By our war in Iraq, We are providing those terrorists with the best training in the world, killing off the stupid, and the weak, which will make those who survive, the next generation of terrorists that much more dangerous at the same time we are instilling into them even more hatred for our nation.

We are not any safer today than we were in 1990s’ or even 2001. Anyone who thinks we are is simply fooling themselves.

I think the US has been the greatest country in the past, I think we can be the greatest country again. The new democratic majority is working on rectifying some of the issues this nation faces. I wish them Godspeed.

I read the president’s speech and it doesn’t jive. The US military have estimated that only 1,000 foreign fighters are in Iraq. So we are facing Iraqi’s fighting to free their own land from an invader, us. If they don’t want us there we should leave. That is exactly what I feel we need to do.

As for the outcome of the war. The Japanese and Germans were not fighting to oust us from their nation. They surrendered. We helped rebuild them. But we are being fought in Iraq.

We need roll back the erosions of the constitutional and legal protections stolen from the American citizens by a rampant and runaway executive branch. The president has gone to far in attempting to establish what his people call the unitary executive at the cost of constitutional rights, civil liberties, and constitutional protections. The best way to think of it is in their world view George W. Bush, Jr is King. He is even now claiming a executive right to open any and all postal mail without a search warrant. Something previously unheard of except in Dick Chaney’s dictatorial mind.

The USA should attempt to be the servant of mankind not the ruler. We should be providing an example of what other countries should aspire to, not forcing them to it at the point of a bayonet.

On immigration I think we need to fix our borders but at the same time we need to make it easier for people to legally immigrate. The statue of liberty establishes what our view towards legal immigration should be.

Right now immigration requires the immigrant to either have or plan on getting a bachelors degree or higher within 4 years of immigration to the United States. This is wrong. We should allow anyone who wishes to come to this country to seek a better life to do so. I can understand having limits on the number of immigrants per year per country and believe that is a sane policy. But we should not deny the poor and uneducated just because they are poor and uneducated provided they are willing to come here and work to better themselves.

If we took every illegal immigrant from this country and sent them home or economy would collapse. Illegal immigrants provide at least 4.8 Billion dollars a month to the US Economy. That is figured using a US Government number (12,000,000) for illegal immigrants and figuring each one spends $100 a week in our country for food, clothing, entertainment, housing, medical care. I think the actual number would be much higher.

This also doesn’t count the man power issues caused by removing 6-10 million workers from the workforce, illegal or otherwise.
