Nice post Terry. I think at the core I agree with what you are trying to get out there, but....

I've listened to these guys for years on the radio for no other reason than lack of access to more left leaning programs. However, listening to Air America, I have found them to say things that are equally inappropriate (and not listed here). If the aim is to remove all speech that is perceived as negative, no one would be allowed to talk. Verbal satire translates horribly into the written word; it loses the inflections and sarcasm. It becomes an easy target, but actually a small part of teh problem.

Therefore, the issue here is not free speech, they should be allowed to say what they say. The issue is three fold in my opinion. One equal time for all opinons on OUR radio waves. Two, radio show hosts have a relatively small audience (extremely small compared to the numerous plays that a pop song can get) compared to pop music which can use much stronger demoralizing language, towards women imparticular (what made the word HO popular anyway - rap music). And thirdly, the idea that most Amercians listen to this crap whether in music, talk radio or otherwise and do not find this speech offensive.

By limiting our outrage, anger, and digust to white male radio show hosts, we are horribly misdirecting our efforts to the smallest piece of the pie, while ignoring the elephant in the room.
