Title VI Anvil Stills Lingers Over Our Heads

titlevi_logo.gifApparently no one seems to remember Title VI. It was completely avoided during the 2006 election cycle. The Clarksville Urbanized Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CUAMPO) has even ignored the negative findings report it received from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Their response deadline has long since passed with no report to the public of how they responded.

However, the issue has not gone away. If anything, the pressures on our community are even greater now that federal officials are beginning to review and investigate fraud allegations that have been lodged with their different agencies. It’s about time they came out of their shells to ascertain the true status of compliance here.

July 2nd will mark the 43rd anniversary of Pres. Johnson signing the 1964 Civil Rights Act into law. Our own state legislature however didn’t adopt it into the TCA until 1993. Our city council still has yet to do so to this day. «Read the rest of this article»

Accounting for Federal Debt Trickery

money.jpgThe following was submitted in response to comments on a Leaf Chronicle story reporting the mounting federal debt and how the public is often misinformed about the debt:

Careful there, Concerned Citizen. Pres. Clinton actually created the greatest surplus we had ever seen during his tenure. It was this president who, in his first six months alone, not only wiped out that surplus but then spent twice that amount in the negative. The Afghanistan/Iraq War is funded “Off the Books!” He has resisted every effort to fund the Social Security Trust Fund in real dollars. He has refused to likewise fund the VA Health Care System with real dollars as a non-discretionary item in the federal budget. The Walter Reed scandal forced his hand, but not by much. Just a little window dressing to appease the masses. Think photo-op in New Orleans. Ever wonder why he doesn’t come to Ft. Campbell anymore?

Burkhart Termination Hearing Will Haunt City Coffers

Clarksville City GovernmentThe recent appeal hearing of former Asst Fire Chief Jeff Burkhart is likely to be costly to the taxpayers. A wrongful termination lawsuit can be expected to land on City Hall’s doorsteps. A review of the proceedings would give even Jose Feliciano the chills. Insubordination- not in a coon’s age or a horse’s derriere. Hurricane Katrina would have steered clear of this farce. «Read the rest of this article»
