By David W. Shelton | July 23, 2007 |
The map outlines specific areas that would be affected should the dam fail. Nearly the entire area around the Two Rivers Center would be flooded, as would the Clarksville Fairgrounds, Jostens Printing and Publishing, and the new sports center for Clarksville Academy. Land near Big West Fork Creek, the Smith Station area, and several neighborhoods near the Red River would also be affected. Since the water levels of the dam have been lowered to help reduce stress on the dam, it’s not likely that the Cumberland River would crest over Riverside Drive. Earlier this year, the United States Corps of Engineers observed increasing seepage around the dam and deemed the dam a “high-risk” for failure. It would seem to me that construction of a new dam would be imperative. I guess that would make too much dam sense. Maybe we should replace some of these shortsighted dam politicians.

There is no way a new dam could be built. It would change the natural enviroment of the two spotted ameba! We can’t have that!!
