Unfortunately for politicians today, the microscope under which their personal, as well as their political lives, is viewed is becoming increasingly magnified. This is nothing new dating back to the mudslinging during the elections in the 1800's. Jimmy Carter was criticized because of "Billy Beer"(named after his brother's fondness of alcohol), Regan was scrutinized because he liked "jelly beans", Bush I threw up on Japan's emperor, Clinton had Monica, and Bush II has his hellraising twins. It seems no matter what accomplishments each contributed, they are most notably recognized and discussed for personal events rather than the content of their character. I'm sure there are those that will argue that it's a reflection of their character and to those people I would like to quote Jesus, "He without sin among you, cast the first stone." It's a shame people resort to using such tactics to belittle someone when it has about as much to do with the subject as Hitler had to do with human rights.
