The Clarksville Office of Housing and Community Development is hosting a series of community workshops related to future development of the Red River and Brandon Hills area. The workshops will be held at the Burt School at 110 Bailey Road (off 8th Street at APSU) in Clarksville on July 31, August 14, September 4 and Sept. 18 from 7-8:30 p.m.
These workshops are designed to help determine the vision and future revitalization for both neighborhoods and will be facillitated by Nashville Civic Design Center with funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Clarksville Office of Housing and Community Development.
According to the planners, “if you live in or own property in either the Red River or Brandon Hills communities, now is the time to get off the sidelines and actively participate in efforts to plan for the future of our neighborhoods … This your chance to revitalize and transform two historic downtown neighborhoods.”
The programs offered are not just informational meetings but actual workshops for which public input and opinions are sought and welcomed.
The July 30 meeting will review the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats associated withg revitalizing these neighborhoods. The August 14 session focuses on developing a vision for the community. September 14 offers an assesment of input from the first sessiosn (the opening meeting was held July 24), and a final report will be presented to the public by the Civic Design Center on Sept. 18.
A trolley Tour of the areas in question will be held Monday, July 30, from Marion and Eighth Streets. Reservations are required, but the tour and all programs are free. RSVP for any of the workshop sessions or the trolley tour by calling the Office of Housing and Devlopment at 931-648-6133.
About Christine Anne Piesyk
In my 40+ years in media, I have worked as feature writer, investigative reporter, editor, publisher, and film/theater/arts critic. I brought my liberal New England activism to Tennessee several years ago, having finally completed a mid-life undergraduate degree in community organizing and women's studies, and an MA in Interdisciplinary Arts with a concentration in Alzheimer's Disease. I served on Future Search Commissions for two colleges and on homelessness for the City of Northampton (MA), where I applied some of my undergrad work in urban planning and community development. I am a member of FreeThinkers for Peace and Civil Liberties. I am a certified storm spotter just because weather fascinates me. In my spare time (define spare time please?) I am a voracious reader, obsessive movie buff, ballroom dancer, and classical music junkie. I also create sci-fi/fantasy and renaissance costumes. I see life as an ongoing opportunity for learning and adventure (one current interest is mastering preparation of foods from India and Southeast Asia). My dream: a return trip to Machu Picchu. After all, the best things still to come. All posts by Christine Anne Piesyk as presented on Clarksville Online are copyright ©2006, 2007, 2008 to the author.
