A legend passes; the world mourns …

By Christine Anne Piesyk | September 5, 2007 | Print This Post

co-pavarotti-sings.jpgLegendary tenor Luciano Pavarotti, 71, has died. He was considered to be the greatest tenor of his time, and retired in 2004, but was on a farewell tour when he was stricken with pancreatic cancer in 2006.

His family and closest friends gathered at his Modena home Wednesday evening as Pavarotti ’s condition declined sharply. He had been treated for pancreatic cancer and was reportedly suffering from kidney failure, according to Italian news sources.

He filled his life with music, and his voice filled our lives with a beauty so intense, so overwhelming it made us cry for the sheer joy of it. Our ecstasy was mirrored in his eyes, his voice, his dazzling smile, and the sheer effervescence of his life.

This clip showcases Il Galdiatore, possibly his greatest vocal work. The slide show itself captures the essence, the heart, soul and music of this magnificent man and his larger than life career.

This production, which debuts September 21 as the opening show in the Roxy’s 25th anniversary season, features Matt Nolen of “You’re the One That I Want,” a TV show that gave different actors a chance to compete as Danny and Sandy.

What’s cool? What’s not cool? Relationship answers you’ve always been looking for will knock you upside the head in this live professional performance. What’s that? Tell me more, tell me more, you say. It’s been many years since John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John responded to those lyrics while romping across the grounds and hallowed halls of Rydell High. «Read the rest of this article»

Craig’s embarassing flip-flop just another example of hypocrisy

By David W. Shelton | September 5, 2007 | Print This Post

david-mug-small.jpgIn what might be the ultimate flip-flop, Senator Larry Craig has announced that he is “reconsidering” his resignation from the US Senate after his arrest and guilty plea for “disorderly conduct” in a Minneapolis airport.

Craig is yet another of a long list of Republicans who have had their hand caught in the cookie jar of hypocrisy. What amazes me is that in recent days the only thing that the Republican Party has to say about itself is to attack former President Bill Clinton who got that blowjob in the Oval Office back in 1995. When that didn’t stick, they went after US Senator Ted Edward Kennedy’s drunken driving manslaughter incident back in 1970.

Of course, the party line from conservatives and Republicans is that the Democratic Party is “corrupt” and “immoral.” If this were true, why do they have to go back twelve years and nearly forty years to find their examples of just how “immoral” Democrats are?
