Loaves and Fishes to dish up Cajun cooking for “Lou’siana Night”

By Christine Anne Piesyk | October 15, 2007 | Print This Post

Loaves and Fishes will host a “Lou’siana Night” of down home Cajun cooking at the Soup Kitchen on October 27 from 4-7 p.m. to benefit their food service programs.

The meal will feature a selection of Cajun foods, especially prepared by kitchen chefs, who will serve a sit-down meal and also offer take-out service.

Proceeds will be used to support the ministry of the soup kitchen program, which serves hot meals to an average of 150 men, women and children six days a week.

In addition, the Loaves and Fishes distributes excess or surplus food items to needy individuals and other service organizations in the community, including Urban Ministries, Salvation Army and Lighthouse Ministries.

Loaves and Fishes does not receive direct government support and relies heavily on donations from the community at large. It also runs on the efforts of dedicated volunteers who work in teams or crews on specific days, arriving early to prep and cook meals, which are served from 10:30 to noon, Monday through Saturday.

Loaves and Fishes is located to the corner of Foster and Third Street. A $10 donation requested. Tickets are available at the Soup Kitchen or by calling 645-9020 for ticket information.

About Christine Anne Piesyk

With 40 years behind me (Huh? What? How did that happen?) as a journalist, feature writer, investigative reporter, editor, and film/theater/arts critic, I brought my liberal New England activism to Tennessee several years ago. having completed a midlife undergraduate degree in community organizing and women's studies, and an MA in Interdisciplinary Arts. I am currently an MFA student at Goddard College. I served on Future Search Commissions for two colleges and an issue-specific commission for the City of Northampton, MA, and did minor undergraduate work in studies in urban planning and community development. I am a community volunteer and a member of FreeThinkers for Peace and Civil Liberties. I am a certified storm spotter. In my spare time (define spare time please?) I am a voracious reader, obsessive movie buff, classical music junkie; I also and design and make sci-fi/fantasy and renaissance costumes. I have an unquenchable interest in just about everything. I see life as an ongoing opportunity for learning and adventure, with the best things still to come.
