Parks summer programs, concerts continue

The Clarksville Park Rangers will be hosting Park Watch meetings tonight at Ashton Park from 6:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. and a combined meeting of Bel-Aire and Dalewood Parks will be at Bel-Aire Park starting at 7:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Summer Programs have two weeks left and the Crow Community Center has room for a few more for youths ages 6-16 years.   The final date for Summer Program is July 17th.  The “Family Night Out” for end of summer programs is scheduled for Friday, July 18th from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Burt Cobb Community Center, where carnival games are just some of the activities featured.

A great way to beat the summer heat is spending a cool moment at the City pools.  The pools will be open for another month and there’s still time to get in on the swim lessons being offered.  There’s room for both morning and evening swim classes.  The costs for classes are $15.00 for class size of 10 students and $25.00 for class size of five students.  Parents are reminded to remain outside the fenced pool area during classes.  To register for swim lessons a pool pass is required and passes can be obtained at the Parks and Recreation Department main office at 104 Public Square.

Be sure to catch the concert in the Park After Dark Series on Saturday, July 12th at McGregor Park River Walk Center.  The concert will feature the soulful sound of the Tina Brown Band with the dancers of Acro Dance Studio as guests during the break.  The concert is admission free and will start at 6 p.m.  Be sure to bring your blankets, lawn chairs and your picnic baskets!  Sorry, no pets are allowed in the concert arena while the event is going on.

Burt Cobb Community Center at 1011 Franklin Street still has room for their Jazzercise class on Mondays from 6-7 p.m. and again on Thursdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m.  Walkers are welcome to the center at 7 a.m. each morning during the week to walk in an indoor air-conditioned facility.  Call the Burt Cobb Community Center at 552-1263 for detailed information on these and other programs this summer.

Fall Softball Season meetings will be held July 13 at Burt Cobb Community Center.  The first meeting will begin at 12:30 p.m. with the final meeting at 2 p.m.

And don’t forget, Youth Recreation League pictures are in and coaches are encouraged to come by the Parks and Recreation Department office to pick them up and distribute to parents.

For more information on these activities and other programs on going, call the Clarksville Parks and Recreation office at 931-645-7476 or go on line and visit the City website at www.cityofclarksville.com/parksandrec.
