I stand behind what I wrote last year: the city and every single business that boasts "we support our troops" should have their feet held to that flame. I've been told "the wind blew it out" on a day when there was not wind, but the all time winner is the sheer number of "pass the buck" referrals about this flame and who is responsible for it. The flame-out is timed meticulously to coincide with days on which we should be honoring our soldiers and our country are days when the flame is obviously out.

I am outraged and embarrassed by the absolute incompetency of our city to keep one little flame lit. I am equally embarrassed by the lack of outcry from businesses, city residents and the soldiers and their families who live and work here, in Iraq, in Afghanistan. Speak up, people. Or don't you care?

Quite frankly, you don't deserve to have this magnificent tribute to our soldiers. Maybe we should send it to a town (there are hundreds who would take it) that will treat the pillar and all it represents with respect and keep the flame burning.
