APSU Professor of Music and world-renowned classical guitarist Dr. Stanley Yates will conduct a workshop on classical guitar. The workshop will take place at 7p.m., Thursday, Sept. 25 at Mary’s Music Store at 305 N. Riverside Drive. The event is open to the public; however, there is a $20 fee to attend. APSU students can receive a $5 discount if they present a student I.D.
The workshop includes demonstrations in classical guitar techniques, ways to incorporate classical guitar into other styles of music, a question-and-answer segment and light refreshments.
A native of Liverpool, England, Yates was playing gigs in clubs when he was 15 years old. He has won several awards and competitions and makes regular contributions to the field of classical guitar. During the 2007-08 season, Yates presented a solo guitar performance at the Foisor Royal Palace, Romania. He performed at the International Guitar Festival of Great Britain, produced a number of concert and instructional DVDs and worked on a rewrite of the best-selling ?Modern Guitar Method? for Mel Bay Publications.
