From Miyo Kachi:
Debbie-

I keep thinking about what you said at the spirituality meeting this week about when things get really really bad, there are some really smart people who are seriously getting themselves together. It seems prophetic now, with Obama and Biden's victory.

I am so impressed with your vision and ongoing dedication - thank you for making your fabulous signs and extending your invitation to join you in holding them. If Clarksville had a prize for activism, I think you would have won it ten times by now-

Meeting Debbie Boen four+ years ago, at the height of the Kerry presidential campaign, was a gift. I look at this dear friend and see a wild-haired woman of conscience and conviction, whose creative spirit emerges in activist art and political action. The art that challenges us to think critically about the issues facing not just America but the world. The political action urges us and gives us a way to challenge the status quo. The rainy summer day when a handful of us, with Debbie as our leader, stood on the shoulder of 41-A and turned our backs on a President who had not only lied to us but sacrificed soldiers in our name is one of the most memorable days of my life. We were a distinct but vocal minority then, since vindicated by time and the bits and pieces of emerging truth.

When I think of Debbie, I think of a "warrior woman," a fiesty spirit, a modern day Valkerie.

I believe that with the election of Obama, a new sense of honor will be restored to America; he will not be a miracle worker, but he will change the course of history and renew faith in a political system that is supposed to be about truth and justice, a government that is by the people, for the people. Obama is one of those people. Debbie, I am glad you got to scream and cry and celebrate the arrival of change.
