The Austin Peay State University Department of Art is pleased to announce the Senior Graphic Design Show, which features the work of senior graphic design majors scheduled to graduate from the Bachelor of Fine Arts program in December. There is no charge for admission and the display is open to the public. Professionals in the design industry and people interested in art and design are encouraged to attend.

The show will begin with an opening reception at 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 1 in the Trahern Gallery. The senior design exhibit will be on display through Dec. 7.

The following students will display their portfolios:

  • Rania Agaib, an immigrant from Egypt, is obtaining her B.F.A. in graphic design. Agaib says, “This show is only the beginning of my accomplishments.” Agaib’s family migrated to the U.S. in hopes of finding a better future.
  • The contributions of senior design major Carole Beekman focuses on the development of smart, original and humorous design. Of her interest in design, Beekman says, “I was drawn to the illustrations in my storybooks and how they conveyed messages to me even before I could read the text.”
  • Unlike the other students, senior graphic design major Alex Ewin strays away from print and focuses on video.  Ewin says, “I like the process of critically assessing a topic then explaining it my own way using video.” Ewin’s portion of the show is an interpretation of graphic design and the video arts.
  • Theresa Fender a former soldier in the U.S. Army, says of her work, “My passion for graphic design revolves around the use of color, typography, photography, and the simplicity that comes with it.”
  • Senior design major Kim Gullet’s work mainly focuses on typography. In her words, “I like the details involved in doing type work, the small differences that most people hardly even notice but can make a profound impact on the viewer.”
  • Washington, D.C., native Joe Long will showcase designs and illustrations targeted for the music industry. After graduating, Long plans on pursuing a career in graphic design in Atlanta, Ga.
  • Originally from Greenville, Ohio, Bret Shumaker’s contribution to the senior exhibit will consist of CD packaging, posters, brochures and a corporate identity system. Shumaker’s choice of work is a byproduct of his passion for music and a love for dynamic design.Courtney Zenner will also display work in the senior design show.  Zenner says, “I view design as a serious undertaking that requires passion and personal vision. I strive to create work that speaks to a contemporary audience with emotional impact and appeal.”
