The Clarksville-Montgomery County School Board met Tuesday night to review all applicants for the vacated District 5 seat, though there  was only one application to consider. The board voted to approve Jimmie M. Garland Sr. as the selected applicant to complete the remaining unfilled term of Tim Chandler for District 5.

Wednesday afternoon Mr. Garland went to the County Clerk’s Office and took the oath of office to become an official member of the school board. The oath was administered by Teresa Cottrell. Garland will serve until the 2010 August election when he will be eligible to seek a full four year term. Garland reiterated his purpose for applying for the position was that he “wants to ensure that the children of Montgomery County receive the best education possible with the money we have available for that purpose. “
