On February 3,  at 7:49 p.m., officers responded to a call of a robbery which occurred at Bob’s Discount Tobacco, 505 Providence Blvd. The responding officers also were told that the store owner had fired one round at the fleeing suspect. Upon arrival, the officer’s investigation pointed to a theft instead of a robbery. The investigation also revealed that a male subject, later identified as Donald Robinson, made an inquiry to the clerk about a job and then spoke to the owner about it.

Shortly after that, the clerk opened the register, at which time, Robinson took money and fled the business. The store owner, shot one round at Robinson after he ran out of the business. Robinson was not hit or taken in custody at that time. Another crime involving Robinson, occurred early on the morning of February 4th.

On February 4,  at 3:13 a.m officers responded to a call for assistance from a Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) Trooper, Sgt Maurice Hobbs, who had a robbery suspect in custody. Sgt Hobbs was driving by the Mapco Express, 640 Providence Blvd and saw a male, later identified as Donald Robinson, in the store at the register with a hooded jacket over his head. Sgt Hobbs turned around and entered the business parking lot. As he entered the lot, Robinson was quickly exiting the business. Sgt Hobbs approached the business and the clerk said they had just been robbed by Robinson. Sgt Hobbs chased and quickly caught Robinson.

Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Robinson demanded money from the register while his hands were in his pockets leading the clerk to believe Robinson could have a weapon. The case was turned over to Detective Kolofsky.

Detective Kolofsky, CPD, interviewed Robinson and he admitted to committing the Theft at Bob’s Discount Tobacco and the Robbery at the Mapco. He was transport and booked into Montgomery County Jail.

Donald James Robinson has an extensive criminal history involving drugs, assault, theft, and traffic violations.
