Operation Turnaround hosts the Freedom Writers for Clarksville’s 1st annual Juvenile Collaborative: Resources for Juveniles, Families, and the Professionals Who Serve Them.

The Freedom Writers are coming to Clarksville on Saturday, August 8th from 8:00a.m. till 3:00p.m. to speak, answer questions, and sign autographs at Northeast High School. Pre-registration is encouraged! The Freedom Writers story is one of a teacher who together with 150 Teens, used writing to change themselves, and the world around them.

Sessions during the day include: Navigating Juvenile Courts, Addiction and Recovery, Managing an unruly or truant child, Coping Skills, Special Education and Disabilities, Navigating CMCSS, Family Wellness, Adolescent Development, Parenting Skills, Self-Defense/RAD, Mentor Training, Depression and Mental Illness, Managing Behavior Problems in the Classroom, Communications 101, Finances 101, Getting Past the Past, Sex and Pregnancy, Dealing with Parents and Adults (kids only), Bullying, and Gangs 101.

HUD announces $360 million in grants for community & economic development nationwide

First rounds of awards made under the Recovery CDBG program will revitalize neighborhoods and create jobs across the country

WASHINGTON – In the Obama Administration’s continued effort to stimulate community development and job growth, U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan today announced nearly 700 grants totaling $360 million in funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act). To view the list of grantees receiving funding under this round of grants, visit HUD’s Recovery Act website.

The grants awarded today represent over half of the Recovery Act-funded grants available through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, which primarily benefit low- to moderate-income families. CDBG enables state and local governments to undertake a wide range of activities intended to create suitable living environments, provide affordable housing and create economic opportunities. Under the Recovery Act, recipients give priority to prudent responsible that can award contracts through a bidding process within 120 days of the grant agreement. College Street closing tomorrow evening

All lanes of College Street will be closed to traffic from University Avenue to Fourth Street on Tuesday, July 21^st, beginning at 7:00 p.m. for approximately 5 hours. Gas and Water construction workers will be replacing water service lines in preparation to abandon an old water main on College Street.

Water is not scheduled for disruption, however water customers in this area are advised to plan for an alternate water source during the construction work.

Traffic will be rerouted to Fourth Street and University Avenue.
