With social networking media becoming the norm in higher education, Austin Peay State University has the eighth fastest-growing Facebook fan page in the nation, according to data compiled by a consultant company.
In addition, APSU’s Facebook page is the 25th fastest-growing of all universities – a total of 1,035 – that were noted in the data.
BlueFuego, a Web and social networking consultant company for higher education, has released recent data concerning Facebook fan page growth.
In the “medium-sized school” category, categorized as enrollment between 5,000-and 9,999 students, APSU’s main fan page is the eighth fastest growing Facebook fan page in the nation, with a fan base growth of 254 percent from April 1-July 1, 2009. There were 171 medium-sized schools in the U.S. listed in BlueFuego data.
Steve Wilson, assistant director of Web and multimedia design, said having a Facebook fan page is part of efforts to market APSU in the social network media arena.
“It’s a ballooning effect, in which our Facebook fans will have our posts seen by their friends who may not be fans, they join and the appeal will grow,” he said.
