The Clarksville Parks and Rec Report

parksandrec1 The weekly Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department Recreation Report provides Clarksvillians with a glimpse at the activities and events that are available from the Parks and Recreation Department for them to enjoy together as a family. This weeks highlights include:

Punt Pass Kick

puntpasskickArea youth had the opportunity to showcase their football skills at the NFL Youth Football sponsored Punt, Pass and Kick event on August 22 at Kenwood High School. Eighteen kids ages 8-15 participated in the NFL style competition that included punting, passing and kicking a football for distance and accuracy.

Youth were divided into age groups for the competition. Six of these young athletes who placed first in their age groups will advance to the sectional competition in October.

Advancing to the sectional finals in the Girls Ages 8-9 category is Madison Rios, in the Ages 10-11 Girls, Ashli Gareau.

In the Boys Ages 8-9 category is Kyle Bradley, Ages 10-11 is Ryan Sailee, Ages 12-13 is Aaron Rhodes and Ages 14-15 is Donovan Lakin. All of the participants are from Clarksville.

Cogratulations to these young athletes for their accomplishments and best of luck at the sectional competition.

Community Center Happenings

Kids on Crafts
Kids on Crafts

This week community centers are gearing up for fall and kicking off some fun programs for kids and adults.

Kids on Crafts starts Monday afternoon at all three community centers. The ten week class offers kids the chance to show off their creativity. The class is led by art instructors who teach kids a wide variety of artistic skills. Classes meet every Monday from 3-4:30p.m. There is no fee, but a $5 community center I.D. is needed.

Young Champions Cheerleading kicks off tomorrow at the Crow Center. All girls ages 4-15 are welcome to participate. Classes take place every Monday night and are divided into three times and age groups:

  • Ages 4-6: 5:00-5:45p.m.
  • Ages 7-9: 6:00-6:45p.m.
  • Ages 10-15: 7:00-7:45p.m.

The class requires a $14 registration fee and $7 per class. Young Champions Cheerleading runs through December 14.

The adults’ recreational volleyball league plays Wednesday night from 6:30-9p.m. Everyone ages 18+ are invited to play in this non-competitive volleyball league that meets every Wednesday night at the Burt-Cobb Community Center.

The youth basketball league begins Thursday, September 17 at the Burt-Cobb Community Center and will continue through October every Thursday from 4-6p.m. The league is for youth ages 11-17. Players will be divided into age groups and placed on teams. Sign up now at the Burt-Cobb Community Center.

Dog Days at Downtown Market

downtownmarket-logoDowntown Market patrons get the chance to experience a different theme each week at the market. Next Saturday, perhaps the most popular theme will return. Dog Days is back at the Downtown Market. The Clarksville- Montgomery County Humane Society will be at the market providing tons of fun for you and your canine companions.

Italian Ice for dogs and a bobbing for balls game are a couple of the fun things planned. A professional photographer will also be on hand to take pictures of you and your dog. They ask that you make a $10 donation to benefit the Clarksville- Montgomery County Humane Society in exchange for a 5×7 photo of you and your pet compliments of PictureYourPhoto.com. Total Canine Care will also be a guest vendor at the market.

Riverfest is only weeks away! Mark your calendars for September 11 and 12. Be at McGregor Park for Two Days, Two Nights, Too Much fun!

Riverfest is filled with fun family activities and a great entertainment lineup including country performer Jack Ingram. Admission to the festival is free.
