Millions in recovery dollars to help needy families Thousands of Tennessee families will qualify for weatherization aid
“We are very excited about this latest installment of Recovery funds” said Tennessee Department of Human Services Commissioner Gina Lodge. “It will move us further toward our goal of improving the energy efficiency of over 10,000 homes. We encourage citizens to apply for this program at their local Weatherization agency.” Citizens may download a short application from the DHS website ( www.tn.gov/wap) and submit it to their local Weatherization agency. The agency then determines if a household qualifies for the program. Priority is given to individuals with disabilities, the elderly and families with children under 6-years old. (For a breakdown of funding by agency, see the following pages.) Eligibility is based on established federal poverty guidelines, and documentation of household income is required. Tennesseans whose household income does not exceed 200 percent of federal poverty guidelines (that’s $44,100/year for a family of four) are potentially eligible for the program. DHS has a network of 18 community and government agencies that administers the program across the state. Licensed Tennessee contractors who are DoE certified and interested in performing Weatherization work can view job postings by county by visiting www.tn.gov/wap. More than 800 jobs have been posted to date. Job descriptions are posted on the site by county, but contractors must submit their bids to the local Weatherization agency.
