Clarksville Greenway

rails-with-trailsThank you to everyone who participated in the Clarksville Greenway Grand Opening yesterday.  We hope you enjoyed the fun activities and preview of the trail.  The new Clarksville Greenway will remain open for public recreational use.

The entry to the trail is at the end of Pollard Road (1101 Pollard Road).  The trail is open from dawn to dusk each day.  Bikers, walkers, skaters and runners are welcome to enjoy the trail but are asked to be mindful of the trail rules and safety precautions posted at the trail’s entry.  Anyone may use the picnic tables, benches and swings that line the trail.  Just remember to put trash in its place and tidy up the area when you are finished.

Pet owners are welcome to bring their dogs to the Greenway.  Just be sure they are on leashes and all waste is disposed of properly.

Nature lovers are sure to love the scenic views and wildlife along the path.  Deer and birds are common sights on the trail and a joy to watch.

The Clarksville Greenway is just one more step toward making our city a fun place to live.  With a little effort to take care of the Greenway, it can be enjoyed by generations to come.  Take advantage of this beautiful treasure and share with us all the exciting things nature has to offer right in the heart of Clarksville.

Heritage Park Bark Park opening soon

Just for Tots

toddlersThe Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department has offered programs to kids, adults and seniors for years.  Now, we can add toddlers to the list as we kick off a new program geared for youngsters ages 2- 4.

The new Toddlers in Action program is a great place for toddlers and their parents to play, learn and interact with other children.  Activities in the class stimulate children’s senses and encourage coordination.  The program is also a great place for parents to meet other parents of toddlers.  The class kicks off October 2 and takes continues every Friday from 10-11a.m.  The cost is $3 per child for each class.

Shape it Up

ballroom_dancingThe community centers also offer a variety of exercise programs for adults including an R&B/Jazz Step class at Burt-Cobb.  The class meets Saturdays from 1-2p.m. and only costs $2 per person.

Ballroom dancing is another great way to get in shape and have fun.  Ballroom dancing classes are available at Burt-Cobb on Tuesday nights from 5:30-6:45p.m.  The cost is $35 for the entire session or $8 per class.

The Morning Walkers’ program at Burt-Cobb is an easy way to work out and socialize each morning.  The walking hour is 7-8a.m.

Classes at the community centers require a $5 I.D. that is good for one year and may be purchased at any of the community centers or Parks and Recreation office.

Theatre in the Park

The final Parks after Dark program of the year was held in McGregor Park on Saturday evening. Featuring a selection from classical and modern Broadway the evenings musical program was backed up by performances from several of the local dance academies.
