Women’s Basketball: Hanley, Richardson lead respective teams in Lady Govs scrimmage

apsugovernorsSophomore guard Whitney Hanley scored 19 points to lead the Black squad in a 77-68 victory against the Red team in the Austin Peay State University women’s basketball scrimmage, Sunday. Junior guard Salem Richardson led the Red squad with 18 points.

The Black squad’s defense forced 27 turnovers, Hanley leading the Red team’s defensive effort with six steals. That defensive effort negated the Red team’s 43-32 rebounding lead.

For the Black squad, Hanley made 8-of-15 field goals, including 3-of-5 from three-point range to finish with a game-best 19 points. She also had eight rebounds and four assists along with her six steals. Sophomore forward Lauren Jones added 18 points and six rebounds . Junior guard Brooke Faulkner had seven assists.

Richardson led the Red team, making 7-of-12 from the field, including 2-of-3 from three-point range to finish with 18 points. Sophomore center Jasmine Rayner and junior guard Alex Bivens each added 11 points, Rayner grabbing 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double. Freshman center Kaitlyn Hill recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game-best 15 rebounds.

The Lady Govs get a final tuneup when they host Cumberland (Tenn.) in a 7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 9 contest at the Dunn Center.
