Opening the game with a 30-5 run, Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team rolled to a 96-40 exhibition victory against Cumberland, Monday night, at the Dunn Center. Austin Peay held Cumberland without a field goal until the 4:36 mark of the first half – a 30-5 run that determined the outcome. The Lady Govs led 47-12 at halftime and won the second half by a 49-28 margin.

Thirteen of the Lady Govs 14 available players scored in the contest, sophomore forward Lauren Jones leading the effort with 22 points and six rebounds. Junior forward Ashley Herring added 14 points and junior guard Salem Richardson chipped in 12 points.
Austin Peay made 58.5 percent (31-of-53) of its field goals, including 50 percent (6-of-12) from three-point range. The one area the Lady Govs had trouble was its turnover count as they recorded 13 in each period to finish with 26.
Junior Keshia Brown led Cumberland with 16 points. The Bulldogs were held to 25 percent (12-of-48) shooting from the field after making just 9.1 percent (2-of-22) in the opening frame. Austin Peay opens its 2009-10 regular-season slate with a 2 p.m., Sunday home contest against Chattanooga.
