APSU art exhibit Submerged offers a unique perspective of human form tonight

Austin Peay State University LogoAustin Peay State University presents Submerged, an exhibition of paintings by senior art student Lindsey Davis Ward, which opens from 7 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 23 at the Trahern Student Gallery.

“This collection of paintings embodies my true love of paint and the freedom it gives me to expose myself in a very intimate and intentional way,” says Ward about the playful vivid color and use of medium in her oil on canvas work. She uses a variety of textures from extremely thin layers of paint to buttery thick swatches with every fluid brush stroke intended to keep the viewer involved.

Ward’s inspiration for this collection comes from viewing the water as a catalyst for renewing the mind and body. “The water became the perfect tool to describe a metaphorical and physical transformation of the body,” she said.

Large-scale paintings of the human form submerged in water will fill the gallery, giving the audience a look into Ward’s passion for juxtaposing uninhibited wild brush strokes with realistic renderings of the body.

The collection will be displayed from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily through Nov. 25 and is free and open to the public.
