APSU Senior Graphic Designers Exhibit Work at Trahern Gallery

Austin Peay State University LogoAustin Peay State University students Tina Gould and Zak Parrish will be opening their senior graphic design gallery exhibit, titled “Iteration,” at 7 p.m., on Monday, Dec. 7 at Austin Peay’s Trahern Gallery.

Design is all about the iterative process, Parrish said. As a design progresses, ideas are conceived, developed, presented, altered, refined and then presented again.

This process moves from one iteration to the next in a constant cycle, ending itself only when all terms from the client have been satisfied. Where a traditional artist may suddenly be inspired to create a particular work on little more than a whim or passing moment of insight, a graphic designer must seek for inspiration from within the confines provided by their client. It is a constant struggle to convey a specific message to a specific group of people in a way that satisfies the client’s needs, and hopefully still leaves room for personal expression on part of the designer. This show will show how two graduating seniors from APSU employ the iterative process in their work.

The show will exhibit a variety of work by Parrish and Gould, including graphic design, photography and 3D character design. The exhibit will be available for viewing at the Trahern gallery through December 11. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. For information about the gallery, please call the APSU Art Office at 931-221-7333.
