AT&T strengthens mobile coverage in Montgomery County Tennessee

New Cell Site Activated as Part of Ongoing AT&T Investment in Local Network

att_logoAs part of its continuing network investment to support growing demand for advanced mobile devices and services, AT&T* today announced a new cell site eight miles southwest of Clarksville in Montgomery County. The new site boosts wireless coverage along Hwy. 13 and to the surrounding areas from Clarksville to Ashland City.

“A strong telecommunications infrastructure is key to the economic vitality of our communities,” said Rep. Curtis Johnson. “This investment in wireless connectivity will benefit Montgomery County by creating new opportunities for residents and business owners.”

From 2006 to 2008, AT&T’s total capital investment in Tennessee was more than $1.2 billion in its wired and wireless networks. The new cell site is one part of AT&T’s ongoing efforts to drive innovation and extend its mobile network.  It is also part of our ongoing investment to build the broadband networks that will fuel economic growth and create jobs, and enable AT&T’s customers to quickly access the content, applications and services that matter most to them.

“Expanding the wireless network across the state is a priority in 2009, particularly in rural areas and highly traveled roads in Tennessee,” said Gregg Morton, president of AT&T Tennessee. “We’re always looking for new opportunities to provide enhanced coverage and our investment in the local wireless network is just one way to accomplish this.”

“It’s great news to see a local provider like AT&T invest to enhance wireless coverage right here in Montgomery County,” said Rep. Joe Pitts. “Growth is very important, especially as we work to get our economy back on track and I’d like to thank AT&T for helping to expand our communications infrastructure in the region.”

AT&T’s mobile broadband network is based on the Global System for Mobile (GSM) standard, the most open and widely used wireless network platforms in the world. AT&T offers data roaming in more than 170 countries, as well as voice calling in more than 215 countries.

“More than ever before, customers look to wireless communications to stay in touch with family, friends and business colleagues,” said Jim Thorpe, vice president and general manager for AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets in Kentucky and Tennessee.  “We’re working to make this possible by adding new wireless coverage and offering exciting products to help our customers stay connected with their world, at home and on the go.”

“We are fortunate to have leaders like Rep. Curtis Johnson and Rep. Joe Pitts who set good public policy that encourage new investments, technology and innovation throughout Tennessee,” said James Chavez, President and CEO of the Clarksville Montgomery County Economic Development Council. “Together, they helped pave the way for this type of wireless investment, and as a result of their leadership, the lives of everyday individuals and families will be enhanced and businesses will stay competitive in Montgomery County.”
