Santa to visit Clarksville Community Centers this week

Burt-Cobb, Crow and Kleeman Community Centers will each be hosting Christmas parties for the community this week.  Stop by for each center’s holiday open house with refreshments and visits with Santa.

Burt-Cobb will be hosting their Christmas party December 14 from 5-7 pm.  Crow Community Center will be hosting their Christmas party December 17 from 6-8 pm.  Kleeman Community Center will also host their party December 17 from 5-7 pm.

Several winter programs offer fun and fitness through dance

Shake up your fitness routine with some rhythmic workouts at Crow and Burt-Cobb Community Center this winter.

zumbaZumba classes will restart with a 6-week program in a new location on Monday nights at the Crow Community Center from 6:30 to 7:30 pm beginning January 11, 2010.  The Zumba craze is seeping the nation and offers interval training sessions that incorporate fast and slow rhythms with resistance training set to Latin music. Fees for the class are $3 per class or $15 for the entire 6-week session plus a $5 community center ID card.

stepprogramBurt-Cobb Community Center offers an R&B Jazz Step class on Saturday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. for just $2 per class. But if you need a little help learning to dance Burt Cobb has a Ballroom Dancing class that will restart its 6-week program January 26, 2010.  Beginner classes will be held Tuesdays at 5:40 pm and advanced classes will be held at 6:50 pm.  The cost will be $35 per person for the 6-week program plus a $5 community center ID card.

Community Centers also offering youth sports programs

soccer ballCrow Community Center’s Youth Indoor Soccer Program begins January 9. The eight-week instructional program is open to youth ages 4 to 12 and registration will begin December 14, 2009.

Registration forms are available at all three Community Centers and online at www.cityofclarksville.com. The cost is $20 per child plus a $5 Community Center ID.  Classes for youth ages 4-6 will be held at 9:15 a.m., 7-9-year-olds at 10:30 a.m. and 10-12-year-olds at 11:45 a.m.

archeryOur archery program at Kleeman Community Center was a big hit and soon children will be able to take the class at Burt-Cobb Community Center too. A new session will begin January 21, 2010 at the Burt Cobb Community Center.  Pre-registration will begin January 4th.  The 8-week class will be held every week from 4-5 pm.  Cost is $10 for the entire 8-week session plus a $5 community center ID card.

Archery teaches the fundamentals of the sport to youth in grades 4-12.  There is a maximum of ten students per class.

Winter Gym is the perfect place for free play basketball three times a week

basketballPlay a game of basketball and make some new friends at the Winter Gym Program at Byrns-Darden Elementary School on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m.

Anyone is welcome to participate in the Winter Gym Program, but youth age 13 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.  The cost is free.

Byrns Darden’s gymnasium will be open to Winter Gym participants through March 31, 2010.  The gym will be closed for the holidays starting December 21, 2009-January 5, 2010.

Enjoy Two Evenings in Santa’s Workshop at Christmas on the Cumberland

Santa's WorkshopDon’t miss two nights of family fun in Santa’s Workshop at Christmas on the Cumberland next weekend.  On December 18 children and parents are invited to come and decorate their own Christmas cookies supplied by Kroger.

Children and parents are invited to return the following night on December 19 to create wooden Christmas ornaments with materials provided by Lowes Home Improvement.

Both evenings in Santa’s workshop are free of charge and take place from 6-8 pm, or while supplies last, in the As the River Flows Museum at the McGregor Park RiverWalk.
