The Cosmetology Board is cautioning its licensees about mailings that have targeted professionals and establishments in Tennessee with solicitations for payment over supposed certification lapses. Mailings from an entity named “American Cosmetology Board” ask for payment from Tennessee licensees.
“We want to ensure that Tennesseans do not fall prey to fraudulent activity,” says Cosmetology Board Director Beverly Waller, “especially activity that targets state licensees.” The mailings, which been reported throughout the state, are under investigation.
In the mailings, “American Cosmetology Board” claims to be an independent certification body. Waller said Cosmetology licensees who have received such mailings should contact the Board to share information by calling 800-480-9285 or by e-mailing cosmetology.board@tn.gov.
