APSU spring dance concert showcases budding talents

There is one more show remaining in the APSU Spring Dance Concert at 2pm Sunday, Be sure to catch it!

Austin Peay State University’s Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts and the Theatre and Dance Department are currently holding their 4th annual Spring Dance Concert. The program directed by Marcus Hayes features 13 works choreographed by the incredibly talented Dance Faculty at APSU, and their students.

I described last summer’s dance concert as poetry in form and motion, and I stand by that description with the spring program. The student performers are incredibly graceful as they weave lithely back and forth across the stage in intricate patterns dictated by the music, and the joy in their souls.

Many of the numbers being performed are old friends while others were totally new to me. That is because late last year the students submitted their work to a formal screening conducted by Margaret Rennerfeldt, MFA. She chose the American College Dance Festival Association (ACDFA) selections, selected the student choreography for this concert, and gave each of the students valuable feedback to help them tune their future works.

In my opinion this screening process gave the production more focus and a subtle emotional intensity that benefited the over all performance, they should continue to use this process in the future.

Tickets are $5 for students/military and $10 for adults. The box office will open 1 hour before the performance. You can also call the box office at 931-221-7379 to reserve tickets.  Reserved tickets need to be picked up at least 15 minutes prior to showtime.
