Spring Eggstravaganza rescheduled

The Spring Eggstravaganza has been rescheduled for Saturday, April 3rd at 2:00pm.

Spring break- a time for Community Service

Recently, Heritage Park received a special visit from a group of youngsters during their Spring Break.  Instead of finding these students kicking around a soccer ball or relaxing with a picnic in the park, the group of nearly 40 college students from North Dakota State University and the surrounding area, rolled up their sleeves and volunteered their time mulching around the many trees found at Heritage Park.  The students were taking part in Students Today Leaders Tomorrow’s fastest growing program– The Pay It Forward Tour (PIF).  The City of Clarksville was just one of the group’s many stops on their nine day adventure from North Dakota to Louisiana.  A special thank you goes out to all the students who were involved as well as the Clarksville Parks & Recreation Maintenance staff for all their hard work!

Practices for Hershey’s Track and Field Competition to Begin

The Hershey Track and Field Program is an opportunity for young athletes to showcase their skills in track, the long jump, and softball throw.  Young athletes can begin signing up now by picking up an application at the Parks and Recreation office or any of our three community centers. This program is open to boys and girls ages 9-14. Practices will meet every Thursday and will begin on Thursday, April 1 from 5-6p.m. at the Crow Center. A local competition will be held May 15 at Kenwood High School Track. For more information, please call the Crow Center at 647-3071.

Pitch, Hit, and Run

Registration is underway for Pitch, Hit and Run.  You may register your child at any of our three community centers or the Parks & Recreation main office.  Registrations will also be accepted the day of the event.  This event will be held at Heritage Park Softball Fields on April 17th at 1:00p.m.

This is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball and is comprised of 3 parts: The “Pitch” contest allows youth to attempt to throw strikes like MLB pitchers by pitching to hit the MLB Strike Zone.  The “Hit” contest is a chance for competitors to take a swing from home plate and be judged on distance and accuracy just like in MLB.  After pitching and hitting, comes the “Run” portion of the competition.  Competitors start at 2nd base and test their speed running into home plate.

The competition is open to baseball enthusiasts ages 7-14.  Competitors will be divided into four age divisions: 7/8 years, 9/10 years, 11/12 years, and 13/14 years.  New this year, girls will also have their own division.  Participants will have the opportunity to advance through four levels of competition with the final round ending at the National Finals at the 2010 MLB All Star Game.
