APSU senior named winner of recent Share a Smile contest

An Austin Peay State University senior is the winner of a recent contest designed to motivate college students to practice good oral health.

Amanda Michelle Brown, of Clarksville, won the 2010 APSU Share a Smile contest sponsored by Delta Dental of Tennessee. The contest was open to members of APSU’s Greek-letter fraternities and sororities.

Brown is a member of Alpha Delta Pi. She received a $1,000.00 monetary award for college expenses, Delta Dental also will give a donation to a Tennessee-based, oral health charity picked by Brown and her sorority.

Contest participants had to upload a photo of themselves smiling with another person or others, along with a caption of 250 words or less explaining how they help bring smiles to others or the importance of the smile depicted in the photo.

Three judges – a representative from APSU, a member of Delta Dental and a local Delta Dental participating dentist – selected one semifinalist from each Greek organization. The semifinalists’ photos and captions were displayed on both Delta Dental’s Facebook and website pages, in which people voted for their favorite selection.

The three other semifinalists from APSU were Rachel Donaldson, a member of Chi Omega Women’s Fraternity; Tangelia Cannon, Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority; and Stephanie Bilderback, Alpha Kappa Psi.
