JACKSON, TN – Austin Peay State University sophomore second baseman Jon Clinard received second-team All-Ohio Valley Conference honors, the league announced Tuesday night during the 2010 Baseball Championship awards banquet. Freshmen first baseman John Hogan and outfielder Cody Hudson were selected to the league’s All-Freshman team.

During OVC play, Clinard, of Cleveland, led the Govs in RBI (16), on-base percentage (.467) and stolen bases (10) while ranking second with a .361 batting average.
He finished the 2010 campaign with a .333 batting average, 30 RBI and a team-best 29 stolen bases.
“Jon was very deserving of All-OVC recognition,” Govs head coach Gary McClure said. “He was an offensive catalyst all season. Jon put us in a lot of scoring situations with his ability to draw a walk and then steal bases when he got on base. I believe he was one of the best leadoff hitters in the league this season.”
John Hogan
Hogan, from St. Louis, Mo., had an impressive freshman OVC campaign, leading the Govs with a .403 batting average that was ninth-best among conference hitters. Defensively, he was not charged with an error in 158 chances during OVC action. Hogan batted .328 overall and had just one error in 425 chances (.998 fielding percentage) while playing in 52 of the team’s 53 games this season.
“I believe John was a serious candidate for ‘Freshman of the Year’,” said McClure. “He was an everyday player for us and hit in the five-hole. John was pitched tough all season and still hit over .400 in the league which is a testament to his toughness at the plate. He’s the best defensive first baseman I’ve coached in my 23 years at Austin Peay. John has saved us a lot of errors this season.”
Cody Hudson
Hudson, of Germantown, batted .275 in conference play with six stolen bases. He batted .283 overall with three home runs, 28 RBI and 18 stolen bases. Hudson had two five-RBI performances during the season: March 5 against Milwaukee and March 13 at Charlotte.
“Cody is a guy who also played every day as a true freshman and made a significant contribution to our team,” McClure said. “He put up very good hitting numbers this season and repeated that in OVC play. He is a very talented player who is going to be really exciting as his career progresses.”
