The City of Clarksville to Hold Ribbon Cutting Ceremony this afternoon

The City of Clarksville invites you to the unveiling of the North Riverwalk Extension Wednesday, June 23rd at 4:00pm. The North Riverwalk Extension consists of a 12’ sidewalk, park benches, picnic tables, lighting, landscaping and irrigation from Pilot’s Plaza (behind O’Charleys) to the confluence of the Cumberland and Red River’s as well as a development pad. City of Clarksville Project Manager, Daniel Binkley sees “this project as a stepping stone to many more great opportunities for quality of life initiatives for the City in the future.”

Lyle Cook Martin Architects, working with Hodgson and Douglas Landscape Architects and DBS Engineering designed the project and Lane Lyle of Lyle Cook Martin was the Architect of Record which oversaw the project. Clay Powers Construction was awarded the contract to construct the project.

Future Project Phases will encompass developing ancillary parking facilities, further development of a Great Lawn, a Pavilion, Fort Clark Plaza, Fishing Piers and Picnic Shelters, and a pedestrian bridge across the Red River to Fort Defiance.

Daniel Binkley also notes that this project is the last stretch of River Walk to be completed between the existing River Walk and the confluence of the Cumberland and Red River. Along with a pedestrian bridge across the Red River to Fort Defiance connecting to .85 miles of new walking trails and an Interpretive Center, this also has potential to connect up with the Clarksville Greenways. Mark Tummons, Parks & Recreation Director, says this new addition “provides additional opportunities for larger special events- like our upcoming Independence Day Celebration and Riverfest.
