Suicide attack kills two Fort Campbell Soldiers

Fort Campbell, KY — Two 101st Airborne Division Soldiers died June 21st when an insurgent detonated a suicide vest next to a traffic control point outside of Lar Sholtan Village, Afghanistan.

Both Soldiers were infantrymen assigned to Company C., 2nd Battalion 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team.

Spc. Andrew R. Looney, 22, of Owasso, OK Looney joined the Army July 2007, and arrived at Fort Campbell in February 2009.

Looney’s awards and decorations include: Purple Heart;  Army Commendation Medal; Army Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Iraqi Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon; Combat Infantry Badge  and Weapons Qualification, M4, expert.

Looney is survived by his parents, Martha and Cleo Looney of Owasso, OK.

Pfc.  David T. Miller, 19, of Wilton, NY. Miller joined the Army in July 2009 and arrived at Fort Campbell in November 2009.

Miller’s awards and decorations include: National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; and Weapons Qualification: M4, expert.

Miller his survived by his mother, Leslie Miller, of  Wilton, NY; and father, Jesse Miller of Madison Heights, VA.  

A memorial ceremony will be held in Afghanistan. Fort Campbell holds a monthly Eagle Remembrance Ceremony to honor the fallen. The next ceremony will be held July 21st at 4:00pm.
