Three Lady Govs named NGCA All-America Scholars

APSU Governors LogoCoral Springs, FL – Three Austin Peay State University women’s golfers, Catie Tucker, Ashley Wathen and Catherine Smith, have been named to the  2010 National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) All-American Scholar Team for NCAA Division I.

A total of 494 women’s collegiate golfers were recognized from Division I, II and III. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are a cumulative 3.50 grade-point average or better and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50 percent (Division I) or 66 percent (Division II & III) of the college’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.

This is the third straight year Tucker, a rising senior, has been named to the NCGA All-American Scholar Team.  She posted a 4.0 grade-point average in the spring and has a 3.964 overall GPA as a psychology major.  The Chattanooga native played in eight of the Lady Govs’ 11 tournaments last year, averaging 83 stroke per round.

Wathen, also a rising senior, has a 3.505 grade-point average as an accounting major.  The Arlington native played in 10 of the team’s tournaments last year and had the team’s third-lowest scoring average (80.16). 

Smith, meanwhile, completed her freshman season in 2009-10 and posted a 3.575 grade-point average as a chemistry major. Smith also played in 10 tournaments a year ago, posting an 80.65 stroke-per-round average.
