Cleveland, OH – Senior all-purpose back Terrence Holt has been named third-team Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Preseason All-American return specialist by Phil Steele’s College Football Preview.
In addition, Holt was preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference as a return specialist while junior Ryan White was named first-team as a running back. Holt, along with junior safety Amius Smith and sophomore kicker Stephen Stansell, were named second- team preseason All-OVC.
Those were announced Thursday by the preseason publication. The magazine will hit newsstands in the coming week.
Recently, Holt was named by The Sports Network as one of the Top 10 FCS specialists and running backs. Last season, Holt led the FCS in all-purpose yards per game (215.7), helped by his third straight season of at least 1,000 yards on kickoff returns. He was named first-team All-America all-purpose back by the College Sporting News and was named second second-team all-purpose back by The Sports Network.As a junior, he averaged for 25.4 yards on 47 kickoff returns, including a career-best 99-yard kickoff return for a score, and 12.4 yards on 16 punt returns, including a 71-yard return that proved to be the winning score against Tennessee State.
As a running back last season, Holt rushed for 793 yards (5.4 yards per carry) with a league-best 16 touchdowns.
White, meanwhile, was a first-team All-OVC running back a year ago and was the OVC’s only running back to rush for 1,000 (1081) yards, including a pair of 200-yard rushing performances.
Smith moved into the Governors starting lineup at safety a year ago and finished second on the team in tackles (88), including 46 initial stops.
Stansell enjoyed a terrific first year as Governors kickers, connecting on 27 of 28 extra-point attempts while knocking through 9 of 15 field-goal attempts, including a 52 yarder at Murray State.
