Fort Campbell Family Housing to start Demolition

Garrison Sergeant Major leads the way in demolishing the first home

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne Division PatchFort Campbell, KY — Fort Campbell Family Housing (FCFH), the partnership created between the Department of the Army and Actus Lend Lease through the Residential Communities Initiative program, will begin the demolition of the final phase of Lee Village.

Set for July 13th, the demolition will begin at 9:00am. Specialist William Taylor and his family, former Lee Village residents will signal the start of the demolition and Command Sergeant Major Mark Herndon will be behind the wheel of a track hoe to knock down the first wall.

“Typically progress is only measured by what is created, but the demolition of these houses marks a significant milestone in the history of housing here at Fort Campbell,” said Mike Goodwin, Deputy Project Director for Fort Campbell Family Housing. “Military Families have lived with these houses for years and we’re happy that one of our past resident families will start the demolition process and the first wall to fall will be at the hands of one of our senior military leaders.”

Lee Village was built in the late 1940’s and originally served as housing for company grade officers.  “More than 50 years ago these were beautiful red brick Georgian style town homes but today they are outdated and unattractive” Goodwin said.  “This has been a long time coming, and everyone will be happy to see them gone.”  Once the land is clear it will remain in the project for potential reuse at a future date.
