Artist Exhibits at the Roxy Regional Theatre and Tennessee Art League

Tennessee Arts LeagueArtist and curator Terri Jordan will be the featured artist in the Roxy Regional Theatre’s Peg Harvill Gallery for the month of August during their production of Into the Woods.

Known for her “women”, this exhibit includes new subject matter for Jordan. In addition to the female form, the show includes large, whimsical paintings of children and animals. These works are from her new Extinctly Endangered series.

Jordan says “Now being a parent of a toddler and a working mom, and non-profit volunteer, I realize more and more how quickly time is passing by… Our society does not allow much time to just play. Even small children are bogged down with schoolwork after hours. In this new series, I wanted to focus on play and the animals that like child’s play are currently endangered or already nonexistent. The show will be part of August’s Art Walk on the 5th.

Jordan has exhibited in group and solo shows in New York, Georgia, Texas, Kentucky, and Tennessee.

Her paintings are in collections from New York to California, and England. In 2003, the University of Georgia purchased four of her works for their collection. A representative of The Agora Gallery in New York City has said that her paintings “contain the best qualities of both figurative and still life painting,” adding, “Much like Matisse’s women, Jordan’s figures are symbolic statements of serenity, beauty, and ornament. More restful than Matisse’s women, however, Jordan explores a more understated realm of existence and privacy.”

The artist is also exhibiting in Nashville during the month of August with the Underground 9, a rogue group she founded last year. The 9 will be featured at the Tennessee Art League with their show entitled Sense of Place. The opening reception will be held Saturday, August 7th, from 6pm to 9 pm, as part of Nashville’s monthly Art Crawl.

About the Tennessee Arts League

The Tennessee Art League is located at 808 Broadway, one block from the Frist Center for the Visual Arts. Hours of operation are 10 am to 4 pm, Tuesday through Saturday.

Both exhibits will run through August 28th.
