Fee Waiver Weekend at LBL August 14th and 15th

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – The USDA Forest Service is celebrating “back to school” season by waiving fees at our nation’s forests and grasslands.  Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area will be participating in the event by waiving fees at participating day-use facilities on Saturday & Sunday, August 14th & 15th.

General admission to The Homeplace (HP), Woodlands Nature Station (NS), Elk & Bison Prairie, and the Golden Pond Planetarium (GPP) show at 1:00pm will be free (does not include special events).  Wranglers Campground will also be waiving day-use riding fees.

LBL Customer Service Manager, Brian Beisel, encourages visitors to come out and take advantage of the fee waiver weekend.  “We want to take this opportunity to celebrate the end of summer by encouraging kids and families to get outdoors and play at LBL.”

During the fee waiver weekend, visitors can also pick up a coupon at NS, HP, or GPP for a “buy one, get one free” return visit for ages 13 and up.  The return visit coupon, which expires October 15th, 2010, will be good for a future one-time admission to either NS or HP.  Be on the lookout for another fee waiver weekend on National Public Lands Day and Veteran’s Day.

Land Between The Lakes is managed by the Forest Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, in partnership with “Friends of LBL,” to provide public lands outdoor recreation and environmental education.  LBL information and maps are available on our website at www.lbl.org or by calling 1-800-LBL-7077 or 270-924-2000.  We encourage visitors to review our website each season, and throughout the season, for our Calendar of Events, updates on programs and policies, and temporary trail and road closures.  You can find out more about “Friends of LBL” at www.friendsoflbl.org.
