Caving and Climbing Adventures with Outdoor Recreation

Morale, Welfare and RecreationFort Campbell, KY – Enjoy an open climbing session in September. Open climbing sessions will take place on Thursdays, September 2nd, 16th, and 30th. Once you have taken the Climbing 101 Clinic and passed the test on properly demonstrating your belay technique, you may enjoy access to all of the Outdoor Recreation Open Climbs. Testing takes place from 4:00pm until 5:00pm.

Equipment such as harness, helmet, rope, and belay device is provided, or you may bring your own equipment that has been approved by the ODR staff. Open climbs are weekly from 4:00pm until 7:00pm.

Meet at the Challenge Course Complex located across the street from Outdoor Recreation. Participants must be at least 16 years of age. Each climbing session cost $10.00. Ages 5 and older welcomed with adult belay certified supervision (Adult supervision 16+).

Challenge Course Complex

On September 7th and 21st come and play on Outdoor Recreation’s 50 foot outdoor climbing wall. The Challenge Course Complex is now offering beginner climbing classes and has many different routes with eight varying sides offering routes from beginner to advanced. This clinic will cover the basics of rock climbing such as belay technique, equipment use, proper climbing technique, and much more. After completion of the beginner class, look for upcoming test-off dates granting you privileges to our weekly Open Wall times.

Meet at the Challenge Course Complex located across the street from Outdoor Recreation (ODR) from 4:00pm until 6:00pm. The clinic costs $20.00, and pre-registration is required. The registration deadline is Tuesday by 12:00pm. Participants must be at least 16 years of age.  

Bring the little ones out to try climbing on our 50 foot outdoor climbing wall on Tuesday, September 28th between  10:00am and 12:00pm. Staff will be on hand to assist children ages 5 to 15 by giving feedback and advice and coaching them all the way up. Climb once, or stay for the full two hours. Parents are welcome to climb, too. Children must be at least 5 years old to climb.  Pre-registration required by September 27th. Climbing fee is $2.00 per person.

Women in the Wilderness

WildernessThis Fall, Outdoor Recreation will be starting a series of clinics and trips just for women titled Women in the Wilderness. These custom trips are made just you and your girlfriends and are scheduled to take place on September 16th and 23rd.

The programs will take place during the day and times and length will vary depending on the activity. No adventure experience required.

Lost Sea Caverns

Cave ExploringOn September 11th and 12th get ready for a fun, adventurous overnight trip in one of Tennessee’s premier cave systems- Lost Sea Caverns. Explore undeveloped cave rooms and crawl through cracks, crevices, nooks, and crannies as tour guides point out striking formations know as anthodites (cave flowers). View rooms where ancient jaguar roamed, moonshine was made, and saltpeter was mined for gunpowder by Confederate soldiers. The $89.00 fee includes tour, transportation, and breakfast on the 11th. There is a registration deadline of September 1st by 12:00pm, and a mandatory pre-trip meeting September 9th 6:00pm.

Located atop Lookout Mountain, Georgia, just six miles from downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee, is Rock City Gardens. On September 18th enjoy sights such as a  100-foot waterfall, 1,000-ton balancing rocks, a Swing-A-Long Bridge (ideal for pictures), and legendary 1,700 foot view of seven states from Lover’s Leap. After enjoying Rock City, we will take the 5 mile drive to Ruby Falls. At 145 feet tall, Ruby Falls is one of the largest underground cave waterfalls. $15.00 fee includes transportation but NOT admittance for Rock City and Ruby Falls which will be paid on arrival of location.

Prices are $31.90 for adults and $16.90 for kids (3 – 12). Meet at Outdoor Recreation Main Office at 7:45am. Registration deadline is September 16th by 4:00pm.

Kings Bluff

Rock ClimbingCome rock climbing with us on September 25th to Kings Bluff where you can experience the challenge of fighting gravity, and the thrill of achieving new heights. King’s Bluff is a local climbing hot spot just a stone’s throw from the banks of the Cumberland River.

$50.00 cost includes all climbing equipment, transportation, and instruction from one of the region’s top guide services. Meet at the ODR Main Office at 8:00am. Registration must be completed no later than September 17th by 12:00pm.

Customized Trips

Outdoor Recreation also does customized private trips for unit or FRG groups. Trip registration can be done in person or over the phone seven days a week between the hours of 7:30am to 4:30pm.  Locations and times of trips are subject to change due to weather conditions. Please dress appropriately for each event. Cancellations initiated by the participant 48 hours in advance of the trip are entitled to a full refund. However, refunds for cancellations made within 48 hours of the trip will be determined by management.

Outdoor Recreation reserves the right to postpone, alter, or cancel any trip.
