PSU assistant football coach, player suspended for tonight’s game due to NCAA rules violation

Austin Peay State University GovernorsAustin Peay State University has self-discovered an NCAA violation regarding an extra benefit within its football program and is in the process of self-reporting and imposing sanctions.

As a result, assistant football coach Dainon Sidney and student-athlete James Barker have been suspended from tonight’s game with Cumberland. As the violation came to light, the University began an internal investigation and acted immediately to report the violation to the Ohio Valley Conference and the NCAA. The investigation remains ongoing.

“As an athletic department, we strive for excellence on the field of play as well as in the conduct of our programs and we work diligently to ensure these standards are met,” APSU Athletics Director Dave Loos said. “We take full responsibility for knowing and following NCAA rules, and we will address concerns, quickly and head on. We are working with the OVC and NCAA to ensure the proper procedures and actions will be taken in this matter.”

The case remains open with the NCAA and OVC. Barker will remain ineligible pending NCAA review.
