Thursday, September 2nd, 2010 • 7:00pm CDT • LP Field (1-2) vs. New Orleans Saints (2-1)
Nashville, TN — The Tennessee Titans (1-2) play their fourth and final preseason game this week, as they host the Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints (2-1) in the LP Charities Game. Kickoff at LP Field (capacity 69,143) is scheduled for 7:00pm CDT tonight.
The Titans and Louisiana Pacific Corporation (LP) are partnering to welcome guests from several charitable organizations to the game. Special recognition will be given to Boy Scouts of America and Girls Inc., whose representatives will be presented with an honorary game ball on the field.
LP’s charitable arm, the LP Foundation, is providing a total of 500 game tickets to the group of non-profits, which also includes YMCA Youth Development, Oasis Center, Boys & Girls Club and Big Brothers Big Sisters. LP began the tradition of honoring local non-profit agencies at a Titans preseason game in 2006.
Additionally, prior to the game, fans are encouraged to participate in the annual Nurses For Newborns Baby Shower Drive. Items such as baby wipes, diapers (sizes 2, 3 and 4) and stage 1 baby food will be collected at several collection sites outside of LP Field and then donated to Nurses For Newborns, which serves at-risk babies and their families across Middle Tennessee.
The game will be televised regionally on the Titans Preseason TV Network, including flagship WKRN-Channel 2 in Nashville. Cory Curtis will handle play-by-play duties, while former Titans running back Eddie George will provide color commentary. Dawn Davenport will report from the sidelines.
The Titans Radio Network, including Nashville flagship 104.5 The Zone, will broadcast the game across the Mid-South with the “Voice of the Titans” Mike Keith, color commentator Frank Wycheck, sideline reporter Cody Allison and gameday host Larry Stone.
The game can be heard locally on 1400am.
The Titans traveled to Carolina last week and were defeated 15-7 at the hands of the Panthers. The starting defense shut out the Panthers in the first half, offsetting the inability of the offense to produce a score of its own. In the second half, Kerry Collins delivered a 35-yard scoring pass to tight end Jared Cook to take a brief lead, but the Panthers responded with nine consecutive points to close the game.
Last week the Saints hosted the San Diego Chargers and won 36-21. Quarterback Drew Brees passed for 240 yards and two touchdowns, as the starting offense played into the third quarter. Cornerback Leigh Torrence capped the scoring with an 87-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Through three preseason games, Brees has passed for 331 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions, seemingly picking up where he left off in 2009, when he set an NFL record with a 70.6 completion percentage and led the NFL with 4,388 passing yards and a 109.6 passer rating.
The Saints, who defeated the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV, open the NFL’s regular season schedule at home against the Minnesota Vikings seven days after visiting the Titans.
On Tuesday, August 31st, the Titans will be mandated by NFL rules to reduce their roster from 80 to 75 players. The final roster reduction to 53 players must occur no later than 5:00pm CDT on Saturday, September 4th, two days after the Titans play the Saints. On September 5th, NFL clubs can establish eight-man practice squads.
